The 4.8 mile course will be on the gently rolling hills of the Winchell neighborhood and through the beautiful Asylum Lake Preserve. Post race merriment and awards will take place inside Bilbo’s. Food and drink will be available for purchase. There will be door prizes, awards for the top three male and female finishers in the Root Beer division (under 21), Beer division (21-41) and the Old Style division (42+). A special award will be given for the best pair of knee high socks.
Registration
Late Registration & Packet Pick Up
Late registration and packet pick up is from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM on race day at the event.Shirts & Swag
Who needs another crappy race shirt? Uh….no one. The International Canned Beer Month shirts are high quality by American Apparel made in the USA. These shirts are not printed with the specific event information. They are the official shirts sold at all sanctioned ICBM events. There is and option to purchase a shirt on the registration. A limited supply of shirts will also be available for sale the day of the event for cash or check. Everyone will get race memorabilia (like a beer koozie, key chain etc.) to take home.Awards
By far the heaviest race awards north of the Mason-Dixon line. Remember to lift with your legs. Each monument to running achievement is hand crafted by artisans using only the finest aluminum, concrete and spray paint. The awards ceremony will take place at 11:30 AM in Bilbo’s. Train well, reinforce the trophy case and shoot for the gold can.Course
The course is a mix of road and trail. The portion on the road is open to traffic. When running on the road be sure to run on the left side of the road against traffic. When running in the woods watch for trees. If you don’t pay attention they will jump in front of you. The trail will be marked with ribbons and arrow signs so you don’t take the path less traveled. There is one water stop that you will run by twice. The narrow entrance to the Asylum Lake Preserve prevents the use of strollers. COURSE MAPTiming
Nope, no fancy chip timing here. It’s one of the ways we are able to offer a low cost event. Only the place finisher’s times are recorded. We provide a large race clock at the start/finish line so you can see your finish time. There will be a volunteer calling off the clock time at the 2 mile mark. Why the knee high socks?
When running a marathon many people wear something distinctive so their friends can easily spot them. For International Canned Beer Month founding father Jim, that “something” was his knee high socks with the Polish national emblem on them. We want to honor Jim and his attitude that running shouldn’t be taken too seriously. Put on the stupidest pair you can find and bring back the joy of running. They are also great for fending off poison ivy, pickers and unwanted suitors. The International Canned Beer Month Story
Back in the day three room mates wanted fresh eggs. They thought they would get chickens and everyone in the house would share the freshly laid eggs. First they needed to build a chicken coop. They wanted a metal roof on their chicken coop. Not just any metal roof but one made out of beer cans. They would collect as many different kinds as they could. They felt the best way to insure the availability of beer cans was to create International Canned Beer Month. Since its inception International Canned Beer Month has spread like wild fire over the globe from Minneapolis to Kalamazoo. Festivities have included softball tournaments, bocce ball, rock band shows, art exhibitions, running and miscellaneous bar games.-
